The Wonders beneath the sea…

We were lucky enough to work at the Under Restaurant the day before its opening.
Under aims to provide a journey into the unknown. By welcoming guests to immerse themselves in the Norwegian marine ecosystem, Under provides a new windows to the world under the sea. Each guest will be given a unique opportunity to experience a submerged universe, exploring marine life in ways they otherwise may never see.

But it comes with a twist : The restaurant is also used for scientific observation. They work with universities from Norway and everywhere around the world for a better understanding of our world.

Under has been designed with sensitive consideration for its geographic context and aquatic neighbours. The structure is designed to fully integrate into its marine environment over time, as the roughness of the concrete shell will function as an artificial reef, welcoming limpets and kelp to inhabit it.

With the thick concrete walls lying against the craggy shoreline, the structure is built to withstand pressure and shock from the rugged sea conditions.

In collaboration with Snøhetta and several experienced local partners, Under have developed a restaurant with an equal focus on marine research, architecture and gastronomy.

By focusing on the coexistence of life on land and in the sea, it proposes a new way of understanding our relationship to our surroundings – above the surface, under the water, and alongside the life of the sea.

With this as a backdrop you will gain a better understanding of the food you eat.

And for us at Schrodinger , it made tons of sense : Because we want to be more than just image makers . We aime to tell stories that will make a difference in the world. This is our core too.

We hope to return soon to Norway for more images , and more stories …
